WakeRoute Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how WakeRoute ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the WakeRoute mobile applications (WakeRoute, Sail Video Overlay and Start Line), the WakeRoute website and related services.

Information We Collect

• GPX files and track data you choose to upload (such as location points and timestamps).
• Run metadata you provide, such as track title, event name, race start time, city, and selected marks.
• Basic technical data needed to operate the service, such as request logs and error diagnostics.

How We Use Information

• To process uploads and generate your run visualizations and analytics.
• To support app features, including map playback, comparisons, and race analysis tools.
• To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve service reliability and performance.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only when needed to operate the service (for example, infrastructure providers) or when required by law.

Data Retention

Uploaded run data may be stored for a limited period to support replay and sharing features. We may remove older data as part of normal retention and cleanup processes.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

WakeRoute is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Sail Video Overlay App

This policy also covers the Sail Video Overlay app for iPhone and iPad, which puts sailing data from your GPS track files onto your own videos.

• The app works on your device. Your videos, the track files you open and the videos it creates are not uploaded to us.
• The app does not require an account and does not include advertising or third-party analytics.
• To draw its map, the app downloads map images for the area of your tracks from map providers (Esri and OpenSeaMap). Those requests reveal the map area being viewed to the provider, as with any online map.
• If you choose "Create a WakeRoute result", the tracks you selected (location points, timestamps, boat names, optional title and any instrument data in the files) are uploaded to WakeRoute and handled as described in this policy. The result page can be viewed by anyone who has its link. Videos are never included.
• If you share a video to Instagram or another app, that app's own privacy policy applies to what you share.

Start Line App

This policy also covers Start Line, a sailing game for iPhone and iPad that you play against other people.

• You sign in with Sign in with Apple. We receive and keep only the anonymous identifier Apple issues for your account with this app. We do not ask Apple for, and do not store, your name or email address.
• You choose a username. It is shown to other players in rooms, on the water and in results. Please do not use your real name if you do not want it seen.
• We keep a count of the games you have played and won. While you are in a game, your boat's movements are sent to our server so the other players can see them; they are not kept after the game ends.
• The app does not collect your location, contacts, photos or device identifiers, and does not include advertising or third-party analytics.
• The subscription is purchased through Apple. We do not receive your payment details, and the app checks your subscription on your device.
• If you report another player's username, we keep the report (your account identifier, theirs, their name at the time and the reason) so we can review it.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account. This removes your identifier, username and record from our server. It does not cancel your subscription, which is managed in your Apple account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
